Synthetics, called synths for short, are artificially-created variations of creatures. The term is mostly used to refer to non-sapient animals, which are commonly used as pets and companions. They exist due to the Toxicity plague rendering naturally domesticated species extinct, and animals being quite hard to domesticate in Elan nowadays.
- All domesticated creatures are synths.
- These creatures are genetically modified in different ways, but all are predisposed to obey sapient species and be more friendly towards them, though they still have individual personalities and wills of their own.
- They are far more resilient to Toxicity than natural species, with certain types being designed to combat or even help treat it.
- Are fairly popular as companions, beasts of burden, etc.
An dragonoid is an artificially-created draconic Therian. They are fully sapient.
Dragonoids and synths are created through artificially growing flesh and adding body parts to it. Both are made for specific functions and roles to fulfill upon creation, and are programmed with behavior most optimal to fulfill these roles. |
- They are more resilient to Toxicity. Though they are still susceptible to it and mental illness.
- Generally live longer, are stronger, and are smarter than regular Therians. Especially in mathematical and mechanical pursuits. Their brains are often outfitted with mechanical devices to increase these types of skills beyond normal levels. (Though this is usually the only mechanical trait they possess)
- Mostly used to operate complex machinery, as manual labor, and as soldiers.
- Stunted emotions and more limited emotional expression than natural Therians. Part of this is to make them less similar to and less likely to replace naturals. This trait is makes them Toxicity resilient. The majority of models are unsuited for work involving socializing (such as the extremely important psychologists in today’s Toxic world), ensuring that job avenues remain open for natural Therians.
- Are not born as babies. Dragonoids are typically made as either children or adults, never being in an infantile state, and are born with the knowledge of whatever they are created to do. They do not physically age until they chronologically reach the age they were created as. So a dragonoid that appears to be 17 years old will stay like that until they actually become 17 years old, at which point they will age regularly.
- Child-born dragonoids: These are created to allow dragonoids more flexibility and growth. They usually possess the capability to learn and grow more than ones made as adults.
- Adult-born dragonoids: These are made when there is a task that needs to be done quickly and requires lots of manpower. They don’t have as much flexibility as child-borns, but are the most common.
- Dragonoids that act indistinguishable from natural Therians and go outside of their roles are stigmatized, as they are seen as being replacements.
- Are not made without emotions though due to it being far more difficult to control an emotionless creature, as their motivations have a risk of turning psychopathic and lacking empathy completely.
- Have the same legal rights as normal Therians, due to past ethical concerns. They still have wills of their own and are still sapient. Though this doesn’t change societal and cultural bias.
